Exhibition: Kusanartuliat
NEW DATE: On Friday the 20th of February at 5 p.m. we are opening the exhibition “Kusanartuliat” with twelve artists and the economusée Kittat, with artists working with handicrafts and the national regalia.
The exhibition explores Greenlandic handicrafts, such as carving, tufting, sculptures, apparel etc., and their close connection to art. The title of the exhibition means “handicrafts” in plural, but also directly translates to “those that are created to be beautiful”. Twelve artists, together with several seamstresses from the economusée Kittat, will show works based on handicrafts. Handicrafts are a central part of Greenlandic culture and experiencing a resurgence in recent years. There is a lot of attention on handicrafts, and many people find inspiration for works of art and for their own regalia in the handicrafts.
Some of the works in exhibition are ceramics by Kristine Spore Kreutzmann, miniature boxes by Mike Lynge, sculptures by Lisa Kreutzmann and Kim Kleist Eriksen, jewelry by Hanne Bruun and Nadja Kreutzmann, as well as artworks by Lisbeth Karline Poulsen, Naja Rosing-Asvid and Ivalo Abelsen. The pieces closer to the national regalia are by Liv Aurora Stender, Sofie Amondsen and Kittat as well as accessories in avittat (seal skin embroidery) by Ulla Lorentzen.
In connection with the exhibition, two guided tours are planned on the 5th of March in collaboration with several of the cultural institutions in Nuuk, initiated by Kittat. This will take place in the days surrounding the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. The tours focus on the handicrafts surrounding the women’s national regalia.
The vernissage will take place on Friday the 20th of February at 5-7 p.m., and several of the artists will be present. Participation is free and open to all.
The exhibition “Kusanartuliat” was created by Kristine Spore Kreutzmann, and has been shown in Bornholm, Sweden and the Faroe Islands during 2025. The exhibition at Nuuk Art Museum is funded by the Sermeq Fund.
